Gorms shredding end of season....

So Scotland has had a pretty dismal winter this year with not much snow at all after 2 really good winters the past 2 years. I got a beginning of season shred at the Lecht before heading to Tahoe and was looking forward to a couple of comps usually held up there end of season when I came back, unfortunately they were cancelled as were a lot of the comps this season due to no snow. Buuuut just proving you can never predict the weather with parts of Europe still getting dumped on it has been snowing non stop in Scotland, down in Aberdeen we have been getting rain non stop up up at the Cairngorms it has been falling as snow, this late in the season, just when everyone had started to write this winter off!!

Last weekend they held a big weekend up there with slalom races and mini freestyle comp and this past weekend held a bigger weekend with the same events on and with lot's more snow having fallen throughout the week it looked to be good conditions with the promise of nice weather!! So Katie Guthrie and I decided to head up and sure enough it was a bluebird day, no wind (which is unusual for Scotland) and some sweet pow to ride through just watching out for the occasional rock. The only thing that sucked was the lift lines as they say over 3000 people headed up there over the weekend, crazy, huh, I've never seen that many up there!!

We just cruised around all day bumping into different people we knew as everyone seemed to be up there not to miss out on an end of season Scottish shred. We went down the home run to the bottom of the mountain early on just to check it out and man it was funny, hoping over mini streams, scraping over gravel and rocks and splooshing through the wet heather while trying to stick to patches of snow, now it was like this after the first one but long lift lines drove us to ride down here twice more where there was less and less snow each time, hahahaha, we are crazy but we weirdly enjoyed that run!!!! Of course up top was amazing conditions for Scotland at this time of year so super stoked to have gone up.

Oh yeah and Katie and I should never be let on a T-bar together as we will NOT stay in a straight line and we WILL try and run over you as 2 people will tell you as we heard their screams, while we hang onto each other for dear life, although by the last T-Bar of the day we had mastered it and got up with no problems, woooo!!!!

Here's a wee vid I made of the fun home run, first up was at the beginning of the day and next up was later on in the day when there was even less snow on it....

Scotlaaaannnndddd....

Have been back in the deen in Scotland now for just over 3 weeks, luckily I've managed to get some graphic design work in an office for a couple of months until I head back to NZ to work as a lifty for the season at Cardrona again and hopefully get some instructor work too, we'll see how it all works out!! Looking forward to it as know people over there and people who are going back for the season so should be an even more awesome season than last year although last years was amazing!!

Have been back shredding at the dry slope on a Wednesday night for the freestyle night, going down to ride during part of the kids club as well as love riding with them and have instructed/ coached many of them in the past. They always have progressed so much each time I'm back looking so grown up and steezier on their boards/ skis, stoked :) I'm looking to enter the Scottish Indoor Freestyle Champs on the 19th May as well as I like to compete to help push my riding and meet new people, etc, always fun.

Other than that I went out surfing once but want to get out surfing more which I'll do as long as there is waves. I've also been out running too, I miss running but I will return to it one day for sure!!

TahPow....

So Tahoe had a few good dumps of snow from like the end of January onwards and beginning of March was the start of the season almost for them snow wise, haha!! So we did get some good pow days and were lucky enough to have ridden 5 mountains around lake Tahoe in our time there, this edit shows all the mountains apart from Northstar as I forgot to film that pow day, haha!! Mount Rose had to be the best pow day of the season and awesome terrain there for it too with steep chutes and some fun powdery rollers to launch off of, fun times....

Wanaka Skate Park....

I came across some footage from last season in Wanaka when I went to the skate park with my housemate Dylan late one afternoon and filmed him and some of his friends....

Brandon Ford....

Brandon Fords edit, such a show off and he chose the song although the song does actually work well for the edit, hahahaha....

Jade Ramaekers....

This was Jade Ramaekers first season snowboarding. To begin with a nervous rider unsure of the mountain and terrain not liking many people around her while riding down, with help and guidance she transformed in to a confident rider mastering the long cat tracks staying more relaxed while riding and mastering some flat land trickery while sending it off the small jump in the park and hitting up the boxes. Was a pleasure to help her with her riding and pushing her to try new things I knew within her capability. I never knew Jade before this season but have come away from it with a new good friend.

Check out her season edit....

Luci Capper....

Here is Luci Cappers end of season edit, she chose the song, being that she's a kiwi and so are the Naked and the Famous a fact I did not know until they told me!! Luci had some bad habits this season but we fixed them and she work super hard at her riding wanting to learn and will continue progressing especially since she'll be in Wanaka for the season too so I'll make sure she pushes herself, haha!!!! Luci it was awesome riding with you, your stoked on the shred and have a fun attitude towards snowboarding which I Iike, was fun fun times this season and thank you for being an awesome tour guide round the mountains of Tahoe since this was your 3rd season there I think and introducing us to your rad friends!!

Here's her end of season edit featuring a guest appearance by Shusha her favourite cat that she would also like to eat, haha!!

End of Season Edit....

At the end of each season I always wish I'd come away having tried more, I felt like this season too although I also feel I pushed myself allot conquered many fears got over my injury from last season and the strongest I have ever been on my board ready and waiting for NZ where I hope to progress my riding even further in park as well as general all round riding too. I never really had the people to push my riding and who I could learn off of while riding with but I still progressed as the crew I did have to ride with were good riders and were stoked on the shred as much as me and progression always comes so much easier when your relaxed and having fun with the people your riding with so thank you to all I met and who I rode with this season it was a pleasure :D I got to use my instructor and coaching knowledge helping out people with their riding and was stoked to inspire people to try new things and see them progress. Was awesome to hear some people say they would just watch me ride cause they could learn so much from that and would end up riding behind me to try copy what I do, something I have done with many people to learn so stoked to hear them think your a good rider!! :)

This is why I travel the world snowboarding, to be inspired by the mountains, terrain and parks out there. To be inspired by the people and riders I meet and ride with along the way and also for me to inspire people too. You get out there and see the amazing talent of riders male and female, I'm not phased by this I just want to work hard have fun and hope that one day I'll get to that level, which I will, hehe!! Just waking up each day stoked on what lies ahead, I never know it just happens and things will happen when the time is right and everything has a way of falling into place something you find out the more you travel, I like not having a clue what I'm doing next as long as it involves being on my board I'm happy :D

I'll now leave you with my Tahoe season edit....
